Leadership roles
We had a very productive discussion of role and responsibilities in the green guild. The following guild structure was agreed upon, understanding that this structure will continue to evolve over time. We also agreed that volunteers who fill these roles are responsible for ensuring that various tasks are accomplished, but that there is no expectation that people must accomplish these tasks alone!
-
President: Guild Executive. Key contact for guild, who's primary responsibility is to delegate tasks to appropriate guild members (positions listed below).
-
Vice President: Serves under the president to "learn the ropes" and as a backup executive when the President is not available. Is expected to assume the role of the president at the end of the President's term.
-
Dishwashing Coordinator: Ensures smooth operation of dishwashing at St. Barts. Oversees recruitment activities, coordinates training, schedules dishwashers (including special events), and manages dishwasher e-mail list.
-
Recycling Coordinator: Schedules recyclers and sends list to parish office
-
Newsletter Editor: Ensures and coordinates regular entries in the parish newsletter.
-
Webmaster Manages wiki and assists others with wiki operation when needed. Manages primary e-mail address lists (GreenGuild and GreenNews). Posts other information important for the guild on the web.
-
Outreach Coordinator: Fields request from outside organizations and ensures that each request receives a response, even if "No." Serves as Diocesan liaison.
-
Parish Education Coordinator: Ensures frequent communication with parish membership via mechanisms like a green "Tip of the month," notification of "green books" in the library, etc.
-
Science Coordinator: Serves as a technical resource for other guild officers regarding issues of natural and ecological science; "stirs ideas" and raises issues about scientific basis of sustainability, ecological sciences, climate change, etc. Maintains relationships with GIPL.
-
Youth Liaison: coordinates with youth minister in involvement of youth guild members. Encourages parish youth to become involved in "green" issues.
-
Fundraising Coordinator: (A future position)
Wiki
Internet connection was not available to demonstrate the wiki. Geoff described briefly his vision of the role of the wiki in the operation of the guild. The primary purpose is to serve as a repository of information so that there is a central location where guild members can find answers to questions, ranging from dishwasher schedules, to guild by-laws, to events, etc. etc. It becomes a freely accessible permanent archive of the collective knowledge of guild members over time. There was agreement that the membership of the green guild didn't know how to access the wiki. Geoff will be working on that issue.
Other New Business
Regular meetings: The guild will meet every first Sunday of the month at 12:30 pm at St. Barts.
Next Meeting
The next meeting is April 6th, 2008 at 12:30 pm at St. Barts.
